Wood blocks spell out content. Title reads Repurpose Your Blog content.

You pour your heart (and caffeine-fueled creativity) into a blog post. It’s smart, it’s insightful, it’s the kind of thing that should be framed and displayed in a museum (in your opinion, right?). But after a couple of days, it disappears into the internet void, collecting digital dust.

Well, we don’t want to let that happen. But without further action, that’s exactly what does happen and what we want to avoid.

So, what if I told you that one blog post could fuel your entire content strategy? Instead of constantly chasing new ideas, you could repurpose that post into at least 10 different pieces of content—without breaking a sweat (or your sanity).

In this post, I’ll share my thoughts on exactly how to stretch that one blog post into spin-off articles, social media content, infographics, videos, and more. So grab your favorite beverage (coffee, tea, something stronger—I don’t judge), and let’s turn that lonely blog post into a content machine.

The Power of Repurposing Content

So, here’s a fun fact: The average lifespan—I like to refer to this as its shelf life—of a blog post is about two years. That might sound impressive at first—two years is a long time in internet years (basically forever in dog years). But here’s the catch: Just because a post technically exists for two years doesn’t mean it’s actually getting seen for two years.

The reality? Your beautifully crafted content gets pushed further and further down the feed every time something new is published. Unless someone stumbles upon it via search or you actively keep it in circulation, it becomes forgotten and buried beneath a pile of newer, shinier posts.

Repurposing Content Keeps it Alive

This is where repurposing can be so beneficial—and can save you oodles of time. Instead of letting that blog post quietly fade into the abyss, you give it multiple chances to live and grow in different formats. Think of it like turning a great book into a blockbuster movie, a podcast, and a Broadway musical—same story, new audiences, more engagement.

And speaking of audiences, not everyone consumes content the same way:

  • Some people love reading long-form blog posts (hi, fellow word nerds!).
  • Others prefer quick, scannable social media posts (aka, the scroll-happy crowd with short attention spans).
  • Some need visual content like infographics or videos to grab their attention.

By repurposing, you meet your audience where they are instead of hoping they magically land on your blog.

Oh, and if you’re thinking, “But I already have a blog, isn’t that enough?”—I’ve got some thoughts on that. (Hint: it’s not.) Check out this article on why doesn’t your business have a blog to see why blogging consistently (and strategically repurposing) is the key to keeping your content working for you.

Bottom line? Repurposing isn’t just about squeezing extra mileage out of one post—it’s about making sure the time and energy you put into your content actually pay off. So, let’s talk about exactly how to do it.

Repurposing a Blog Post into 10 Pieces of Content

You know that feeling when you order a pizza (now I’m hungry), and suddenly, you realize you have leftovers for days? Repurposing content is kind of like that—except instead of eating cold pizza for breakfast (ewww), you’re turning one blog post into multiple high-impact pieces of content.

Rather than letting that one post sit pretty on your website, let’s stretch it, remix it, and serve it up in different formats to reach more people.

1. Create Spin-Off Articles

Not all blog posts are created equal—some are gold mines of potential content. A single in-depth post can spark multiple spin-off articles, each getting deeper into a specific subtopic.

For example, a post about Content Marketing Trends could turn into:

  • How AI is Shaping Content Marketing
  • Top 5 SEO Tactics for 2024
  • The Biggest Blogging Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

See where this is going? You’re never really out of blog ideas; you just need to break them down. If you’re stuck, check out this article on creative blog topics for Valentine’s Day to see how you can pretty much develop a topic for anything.

2. Break It into Social Media Posts

Your blog post is already packed with valuable insights—why not turn those insights into social media gold? Instead of just posting a link (which, let’s be real, people might ignore), extract key takeaways and repurpose them into bite-sized posts.

Here’s how:

  • A list post? Turn each point into a standalone LinkedIn or Instagram carousel.
  • A data-heavy article? Share key stats as a Twitter (X) thread.
  • A quote-worthy piece? Grab compelling lines and turn them into shareable graphics.

To make these posts get in front of as many of the right followers as possible, add a little personality, and don’t be afraid to make your audience laugh. Social media is meant to be social.

3. Design an Infographic

Some people love words. Others need visuals to stay engaged (we see you, Pinterest lovers). An infographic distills key points from your blog post into a digestible, eye-catching format that’s perfect for LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Tools like Canva (my go-to platform), Piktochart, or Venngage make it easy to create infographics—even if your design skills are, well… questionable like mine.

The best part? Infographics are highly shareable, which means your content gets more eyes on it—without extra effort from you.

4. Record a Short Video

If you’re not using short-form video content, you’re missing out. Platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts love quick, engaging videos—so why not repurpose your blog into one?

Try these:

  • A 60-second summary of your blog post.
  • A quick tip from the article (make it punchy!).
  • A Q&A-style video addressing common questions from your post.

Bonus points if you throw in a fun transition or a dramatic pause for effect.

5. Turn It into an Email Newsletter

Not everyone checks your blog daily (shocking, I know). But if you have an email list, you already have a built-in audience.

Summarize your post in an insightful, upbeat, and engaging email, highlight one or two key points, and include a clear CTA linking back to the full article. Boom—instant content extension.

6. Create a Podcast or Audio Clip

Already have a podcast? Dedicate an episode to discussing your blog topic in more depth.

No podcast? No problem. Record a quick audio clip summarizing the post and upload it to Spotify, SoundCloud, or even Instagram Stories. It’s like an audio blog—but way easier to consume on the go.

Content Repurposing = Work Smarter, Not Harder

And just like that, one blog post becomes 10+ pieces of content. No extra writing marathons, no nights up late trying to come up with new topics resulting in blank-page panic—just smarter content creation.

So, which repurposing method are you going to try first?
