Years ago, long after I had started freelancing on the side as a content writer and copywriter, I spent a long time thinking about what I wanted to do for the next phase of my career.
I had already been a sales executive in the marketing space. I had been the head of marketing for several different organizations. And through it all, I kept going back to content. It was what I loved.
For the longest time, though, I didn’t think I could make a career out of it. So even though content was my passion, I considered other options. And I knew enough about myself at this point in my life to know a few things.
I didn’t want to travel for work anymore. Travel should be for fun. I didn’t want a boss. Yes, I realize that might sound a little bold, but after years in leadership roles, I wanted to be my own boss, not report to one.
I also wanted more flexibility in how, where, and when I worked. Remote work was an option, and I had been doing it for years, but I could already see signs that companies would start asking employees to come back to the office. I didn’t want that. I have always been self-disciplined and motivated, and I don’t need a professional office setting to stay that way. Plus, my extroverted-introverted nature always felt completely drained by the end of a full workday in an office.
So Why Didn’t I Become a Fractional CMO?
I get asked this question every so often. I have the skills. The experience, too. And I really did consider it.
I even took courses through Voyageur University, put on by one of my fractional CMO connections, John Arms. I learned a great deal. Through that experience, I came away with the confidence that I could do it. But I also came away with the confidence that I didn’t want to do it. If anything, going through that process made my passion for content, written content specifically, rise even further to the surface.
That brought me to a real decision point. Did I want to take the fractional CMO path and work with maybe two or three clients at a time, doing broad strategic-level work? Or did I want something different?
I decided I didn’t want that path. Writing was and is where my heart is. I wanted my work to be centered on writing. And I wanted the opportunity to write for a wide variety of clients rather than being locked into a single type of content or industry.
Choosing to Go Deep on Content Writing
That decision turned out to be the right one.
I launched Copywriting For You Corporation officially in March 2023. Today, I work with 10 to 15 clients at a time. I don’t write just anything and everything. I have clear areas of focus where I have developed real depth and expertise.
Those areas include personal finance and financial literacy, health and wellness (with a strong focus on dental and mental health), parenting and family, pets, and real estate. I do work with a handful of clients in other areas as well, but the spaces I listed are where I spend the majority of my time.
Because my focus is exclusively on content writing, I can go deep. I have become very good at what I do. That is exactly why I have become a highly sought-after content writer in Woodbury, MN. (Full transparency, I included that localization for SEO purposes. The reality is that my clients are spread across the United States, with some international clients as well.)
What Does This Mean for You?
If you landed here hoping to find a fractional CMO, I can still help. I have solid connections in that space (including John Arms and Krista Sweeney at Heikes Consulting, among others), and I am happy to point you to people who do that work exceptionally well.
If your marketing strategy needs written content, I can help you directly. And if you are not already prioritizing content in your organic marketing strategy, it is worth a closer look. Content is one of the most cost-effective ways to build authority, attract the right audience, and generate leads over time.
That is the work I do every day for my clients. And honestly, it is the work I have always wanted to do.
If you are ready to discuss how strong content could benefit your business, I would love to connect. All you need to do is book a call to learn more and get started.
